Here Be Dragons

Archive for the ‘music’ Category

So, you’ve probably been wondering where I’ve been the last three days. Part of the problem is that I’ve had absolutely nothing to write about. The second is that I’ve been playing “Age of Conan” when the kids have finally gone to bed and I have my “alone” time.

The third thing I’ve been working on however, benefits you! Yes, you!

May I present my first pseudo-pop song. Take angry alternative lyrics that you’d likely hear from Avril, wrap it within a pop beat, throw in some 70’s power ballad chords and an 80’s synthesizer, and you’ve got “Finally Oblivious”.

The first version of the song you see below is a completely untouched recording. Just the song and words.

The second version was my attempt at trying to make it sound a bit more “commercial”.

Regardless, enjoy and please let me know what you think.

Memorial Day

Posted by Kate

Our town had it’s annual Memorial Day Parade today. My daughter was feeling well enough after a few days with strep to take part on the soccer float, and I snapped a few pictures. Her brother is next to her as her chaperone.

You can find the album here. Set to music**, I’m hoping it has the desired effect as we remember those who so bravely fought to keep us free and united.

**You will need to hit the link, wait a few seconds and then hit refresh if you want to get the pictures to line up correctly with the music. They are big, so they’ll need to load a second. You also have the option to turn off the music and click through without, but I’m telling you it’s not the same without it. :)

It’s up ovah here.

We follow Michael Collins deeper into enemy territory, watching the Solarian Marine Corps at their deadliest. The fate of a Rak’lan alien is dealt with as the skirmish ends an in turn sparks a debate about our own grasp of humanity.

“Off The Beaten Track”

Posted by Kate

Remember about two weeks ago when I told you that I would be on the radio? Well thanks to Vince O’Connor, I have the recording of the show! I have to admit, it was a little odd having an entire 25 minutes of the show dedicated to my music, and I can’t be held accountable for any delusions of grandeur it may have caused in my head.

So yeah people, bow down!

I mean, enjoy! You can access the file below by streaming it, or dl’ing it. Thanks again, Vince!

Also, a huge thanks to John Scalzi, for allowing Vince to play “Why Don’t You Love Me”, the song to which John wrote the music and I hijacked with permission, (read, “collaborated”) to write the words and sing. You continue to rock, John!

My Own Version Of “Boom De Yada”

Posted by Kate

I have had that song in my head since posting the Discovery Channel’s commercial two posts below this one.

Here is my own Interweebs version!

I love my keyboard
I love my monitor
I love my speakers
I love Jean-Luc Picard?
I love all the nik-nacks
On Woot and Steep and Cheap

Boom de yada
Boom de yada
Boom de yada
Boom de yada

I love the intarweebs
and all the Twitterites,
I love the gaming world
when I’m alone at night
I love lolcats
they make me smile bright!

Boom de yada
Boom de yada
Boom de yada
Boom de yada

I love my Youtube
I love the Whateveresque
I love the Brain of Shawn
I love all the “hot chicks”
I love the Hodge and
His a-hole politics

Boom de yada
Boom de yada
Boom de yada
Boom de yada

I love the newbies
and throwing frag grenades
I love my portals
and GLaDOS’ crazy cake
I love my medic gun
And all the death at stake

Boom De Yada
boom de yada
Boom de yada
Boom de yada

boom.

Everything - A New Vocal Track

Posted by Kate

Please, please, please let me know what you think. I composed the music, wrote the lyrics and recorded it in the space of 3 hours. I guess I needed to get this out!

I think I like it the best out of all the pieces.

Comments are extremely appreciated!

UPDATE: You can actually hear me now. Thanks for the comments Janiece and Kim!
