The Trials and Tribulations….

Posted by Kate

…That come with being a toddler.

Allyson’s first attempt at mini golf was fun had by all. She pretty much kicked my ass. Enjoy. Although, I must warn you that you will be hearing my horrible giggles and laughter. I sound like a f’in hyena.

Happy Fifth of July!

Posted by Kate

I would have wished you a happy fourth of July, but I was out with my son on a New England Aquarium whale watch! We took the sunset cruise and ran into a bunch of whales who happened to be practicing for the synchronized swimming event at the olympics.

As the sun set, we cruised back into Boston Harbor, saw fireworks, the USS Constitution and the Queen Mary 2. She’s a big lady and apparently one of the biggest cruise ships to sail! Here’s the link to the photo album and I’ll be posting a video below.

(and the rocket’s red glare, indeed)

More Hilarious Japanese TV Shows

Posted by Kate

I would have loved to be in the boardroom when they came up with the idea for this TV show. This was another one of those clips that made me laugh until I had tears. Gotta love the Japanese.

Enjoy the hilarity:

Apparently failure for cleaning the floor is having a cloth soaked in rotten milk applied directly to your face.

In this one, the spider ladies eat fermented soy beans which smell like rotten flesh and then breathe it on you.

Naaassty.

Why It’s Fun To Plant With Toddlers

Posted by Kate

About two months ago, I planted starter seeds. As most of you saw, they suffered horrible deaths after mistakenly being left out in one of the worst thunderstorms that I can remember. You can imagine my surprise today that when I finally was able to go out and weed the perennial garden today, there were a few plants that shouldn’t have been there, growing with vigor! Four pea pod seeds had been stolen by my toddler and “planted” atop the soil. I can only guess she wanted to be like her mommy that day. Either then when I tossed the soil to make way for the hyacinth bushes or by some natural selection involving plants, the seeds grew up to be big plants!

She wanted to help.

She did.

What’s even more amusing is that I have a few other vegetable plants growing in places were they weren’t quite expected, either. For instance two more pea vines at the end of the driveway, and a pepper plant near the deck. The sad part is, they’re growing better where they’re not supposed to be, than the ones in my garden.

Go figure.

Memorial Day Pictures Fixed!

Posted by Kate

I had a lot of people come back and say they loved the slide show I did with the Memorial Day Parade pictures in Enfield, but a lot had difficulty loading the huge file. I’ve compacted the pictures and it should load a lot faster for you guys with hamsters.

Click here for the new version.

Let me know what you think if you couldn’t access the file before.

I’ve also added the link over to the right on Photo Albums.

Writing Again!

Posted by Kate

Yeah, I got sucked into doing another group story. (Actually I volunteered.)

I posted my chapter yesterday. (Tom actually posted the story for me, because apparently I’m too incompetent on formats other than Wordpress to accomplish anything.)

I worked very long and hard on the piece. (I pumped it out in 8 hours, after I got the writing bug.)

I hate doing research. It’s such a pain in the ass to find things that aren’t wiki-related. Couple that with research on women in the 1940’s during WW2, and I was starving for information. (Actually, I found some very intriguing articles about the war movement. There are some very neat, authentic videos on Youtube by the US War Department in relation to women doing their part. )

I am too lazy for real punctuation in this post. (Yeah, what she said.)

Enjoy the story. (Or I will cry buckets of salty tears that will overflow and drown small helpless kittens.)

Think of the kittens. (I meant it about the crying.)

Let me know what you think! (Unless it’s bad.)

Memorial Day

Posted by Kate

Our town had it’s annual Memorial Day Parade today. My daughter was feeling well enough after a few days with strep to take part on the soccer float, and I snapped a few pictures. Her brother is next to her as her chaperone.

You can find the album here. Set to music**, I’m hoping it has the desired effect as we remember those who so bravely fought to keep us free and united.

**You will need to hit the link, wait a few seconds and then hit refresh if you want to get the pictures to line up correctly with the music. They are big, so they’ll need to load a second. You also have the option to turn off the music and click through without, but I’m telling you it’s not the same without it. :)

Introducing Jessica Zielonka

Posted by Kate

This up and coming artist has been accepted to the UConn art program, and her items are currently for sale via the Deviant Art site. If there is significant interest, we might move her gallery here where she’d be able to keep the bigger chunk of profits. College is expensive don’t you know! I am very lucky to have her as a cousin.

Here are a few of my favorites:
