Memorial Day

Posted by Kate

Our town had it’s annual Memorial Day Parade today. My daughter was feeling well enough after a few days with strep to take part on the soccer float, and I snapped a few pictures. Her brother is next to her as her chaperone.

You can find the album here. Set to music**, I’m hoping it has the desired effect as we remember those who so bravely fought to keep us free and united.

**You will need to hit the link, wait a few seconds and then hit refresh if you want to get the pictures to line up correctly with the music. They are big, so they’ll need to load a second. You also have the option to turn off the music and click through without, but I’m telling you it’s not the same without it. :)

  2. ellen Said,

    Katy,
I am so very impresed with your Tribute,This is not about the survivors of many wars.
This snall parade from a small town is about the WAR DEAD. Those whow made a sacrfice of their LIVES for the common good,
Every veteran can tell you of a friends’s loss. Boy’s not old enough to to know their full potential, To beome men , to raise faimilies, to become leaders, to make a mark in the world…
Such a huge loss to humanity.
I remember, from my childhood, my Dad taking me to these parades. We would bow our heads when the Gold Star mothers woud ride by . These Mothers lost SONS.They lost HUSBANDS.They lost their FATHERS . We would STOP ALL TALK,. all Community, and BOW OUR HEADS, In respect and shared pain.
Not too many people know of the meaning of Memorial Day.
THAT is what it is about.. Today, I see a WW2 Cap on an elderly man.He has a story to tell..
A horrific story, same with Korean vets, Vietnam vets, Gulf war Vets, How THEY LOST THEIR FRIENDS.They are grateful that I recognize them, and they usually say..” I did not do anything, It was my FRIENDS who did it all…”
