Of Atheists and Believers

   Posted by: Kate    in Life

First things first; I do not subscribe to any particular brand of religion. However, this does not mean I do not believe in God. This does not mean that I don’t follow what I feel in my heart is the right way to treat my fellow humans. However, I’m confused where it says in any book that subscribing to intellectualism automatically qualifies you as an Atheist. While I can pluck hypocrisy in the way certain religions have run their establishments, I do not mess with the most beautiful and special gift that has been bestowed upon this civilization. Belief.

In the social circles I’ve found myself of late, whenever the topic of religion is hung from a hook, what once were civilized people start behaving like rabid animals hungering for the feast of flesh. Did I miss something here? Is it suddenly cool to not believe in God? If you do, does that make you inherently stupid?

Frankly, I’d put more weight behind someone who believes wholeheartedly in something as opposed to someone who tries to tear it down with their own interpretation of facts and opinion. The latter represents an individual who is afraid of putting soul before science. That to me, is a rather shallow existence, for the last time I checked, one of the characteristics that make us different from everything else on this planet is our  fundamental ability to believe.

Whether you derive that gift from God, Zeus, Gaia, the Goddess of the Moon, is your prerogative.

As for me, I am beginning to think that science is indeed slowly killing the idea of God and to steal a concept from Carl Sagan, I wouldn’t want to live in a world where God didn’t exist.

If you think things are bad now…
