Tony Snow Quitting as Press Secretary

Author: Kate  //  Category: Soap Box, Stupid People

Due to ‘financial reasons’. Wow.

Did losing all those Iraq war pullout date office pools whittle away at his $168K/year salary?

While I’m sure the White House will spin this to look as if they ultimately planned it, I’m laughing hysterically that Bush’s ‘people’ are abandoning ship just timely enough to be called survivors of the S.S. Lame Duck, instead of committing career suicide in going down with the ship.

Oooh. That’s witty.

Your Friday Video Mashups

The Police vs. Snow Patrol

“Every car you chase”

It gets a little murky in places, but over all - with a little more professional mixing, these songs would be a perfect match.

 Edit:

Here is another one that I found. I think I may be addicted to these. Here is Madonna and Depeche Mode!

Just for Doug and his White Stripes, here is another one. Pump up the doorbell!

Weekend Assignment #179: Your Favorite Day

Author: Kate  //  Category: Assignments

Scalzi’s Weekend Assignment #179: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: of all the days of the work week, which is your favorite? Yes, I know a lot of people will default toward Friday, because it’s an easy one, but I hope you will actually put some thought into your response and give each day its due. If you finally settle on Friday, fair enough. But even Monday has its good points, you know?

Extra Credit: Name a song you like with a day of the week in it (you can include Saturdays and Sundays for consideration here).

Actually, I love Monday. If I can get over the blahs in getting out of bed and getting myself to work, it’s usually one of my most productive days. Normally the five people who are in my office are present which promotes a ‘hustle and bustle’ environment.

I’m one of those people who loves being busy, thrives with deadlines and works well under pressure.

So while people are still cuddled under their blankets, hitting their snooze buttons for the fifteenth time, I’m approaching the day with Bruce Campbell in an Army of Darkness type of way.

“Bring it on, baby.”

Not only does this happily involke fond memories of the 80’s but it is just the type of song that makes ya bounce. Oh yeah, bounce with me!

Catching Up

Author: Kate  //  Category: Wootercakes!

Since the database fried last week, I wanted to put up the more substantial posts from Amnesia’s past.

Back in March, I had written lyrics to one of John Scalzi’s electronica songs. He liked it so much that he put the song up on his site and gave me props!

I was rather proud of this moment, because although I get validation from my circle of friends which is always greatly appreciated and awesome, getting recognized outside of your social web is positively orgasmic! :)

Here is the link.

John had a bit of a problem with his blog, so the archive page is alittle messed up in terms of formating but the links along with the comments are there. Enjoy!

Beware the Zombie Dog from Hell

If you don’t buy your furry friend’s medicine from the Betty White endorsed internet store, scary zombie dog will keel you.

While surfing my regular news sites, I was on cnn.com when this advertisement popped up. There is no photoshoppery with the eyes, the only thing I did was black out the company name. Hey, I don’t give out free advertising to corporations here!

Once you move the bone in some asinine flash setup, the dog’s eyes return to normal.

However if you’re just reading your article as you go along and see the zombie dog, it might actually give you nightmares.

The Downfall of NASA

Author: Kate  //  Category: Science & Space, Soap Box

NASA has decided against repairing the space shuttle for it’s return to earth. What I find the most interesting bit of information in the entire article is that they aren’t even worried that gases will find their way into the crack and breach the ship, causing the same horrific explosion seen with Columbia.

I don’t understand why they aren’t even concerned! The article mentions that the lack of fixing the ship with a space walk will open NASA up to longer repairs once the shuttle hits dirt (in a million pieces?).

Looking at this logically, they had no idea the size of the hole or the location on the failed Columbia landing. They concluded the cause after picking up small pieces of the shuttle in Texan’s backyards. It was the only scientific explanation at the time.

Trying desperately not to go into conspiracy theory here, but was NASA lying to us just to appease the conscience of the American public? If they weren’t, wouldn’t you be sending those astronauts out there, risking further damage to the ship if you’re going to have to repair it when it lands anyway?

Do they want the shuttle to explode? Will it give them enough clout to clean house and beg the government for the funding for a better and more reliable ship?

I do believe if this is the case, the mob will have lost all interest in the United States Space Program.

Whatever the cause, I do hope God watches these men and women as they descend through the atmosphere. I for one will be waiting with baited breath to see they land in one piece.
