In the Shadow of the Moon

Have you ever laid down outside at night and stared at the stars, wondering perhaps if you would ever get to see the earth from space? Every single chance I got as a child, and every moment I find myself in the dark since becoming an adult, I look up, hoping that one day I’ll be on a rocket colonizing other worlds.

What about watching the launches of the space shuttles? Does your breath catch in your chest as the seconds tick down? Does your heart stop for that moment when you see the engines ignite, pull away from the platform, and clear the tower?

If the answer is yes, read on. If the answer is no, oh boy are you missing out!

Ron Howard has done it again with a brilliant documentary that is supposed to hit theaters in September. You can see the preview by clicking on the youtube screen below. I can’t express how many chills slid up my spine as I watched it.

Perhaps what we lack in our enthusiasm to actually get off Terra and explore the universe, we can find by remembering how wonderfully exciting it was to care about the space program as they did back in the 60’s.

If the movie is going to be anything like the preview below, maybe Mr. Howard will accomplish something other than just restating history.

Perhaps he’ll strike the spark that will ignite our passion for space travel that we had so long ago.
